The Creative Play House Preschool Program

At the Creative Play House the  magic and joy of the early childhood leaning years are respected and nurtured. We see each child as a unique person: your child’s temperament, interests and developmental stage are considered when planning activities. Because of this, you will always find a “Developmentally Appropriate”  learning environment at the CPH.

We have found that following the emergent interests of children as they play is the best way to foster enthusiastic, inquisitive, self-directed learners.  The curriculum is developed anew each year in response to children’s interests and by integrating these with  experiences, materials and an overall environment which fosters  learning in all areas—cognitive, fine and gross motor, language, social, emotional and creative.

Calendar

The Creative Play House will closely follow the Portland Public School calendar which will be furnished to families during the summer. Our school year begins the first Monday after Labor Day, and ends after the first week in June. This schedule allows for “inservice” time for our teachers.  We will be closed for all holidays and vacations taken by the PPS during the school year.  However, we will be open for snow days, staff in service days and other non-holiday closings taken by the PPS.

Beginning fall 2019 we will institute a 60 minute delay on Portland Public School snow days and delayed start days. We will also provide our teachers up to 3 days of personal/sick leave, which will not be made up. Families will be notified the night before if possible, or by 7 am the morning of the closing.
